The AREDS2 clinical study conducted by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health, completed in 2012, included thousands of patients. No. The vitamins and minerals tested in the AREDS and AREDS2 studies were provided in much higher doses than what is found in typical multivitamins. Also, it is important to remember that most of the study participants took a daily multivitamin in addition to an AREDS 2 formula supplement.⁴

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a disease associated with aging that may gradually destroy sharp, central vision. Central vision is needed for seeing objects clearly and for common daily tasks such as reading and driving. AMD affects the macula, the part of the eye that allows you to see fine detail, but causes no pain.
